Reimagining Recovery.

Modern medicine pathologises how humans have learned to use food to manage painful and difficult experiences.

Your eating is not ‘disordered’.

You are not doing it wrong.

You are wise and resourceful.

So, Let’s Try Something Different.

Hi, I’m Louise

Whilst I don’t have lived experience, I grew up witnessing the impact of weight-based bullying and teasing on people’s sense of self, worth, eating patterns and beliefs.

Early in my career as a dietitian, I recognised that while I wasn’t overtly replicating what I witnessed growing up, I was causing harm practising within the ‘dietitian is the expert’ weight-centric, medical model (apologies, cringe, compassion). So, I side-stepped and studied psychology in an effort to understand more about how our behaviours, emotions and thoughts are connected.

I’ve felt lost and confused, but along the way, I stumbled across the Health at Every Size and Non-Diet paradigms and found My Crew there. I can honestly say that I have only stuck with being a ‘helping professional’ due to those in the field who have stood beside me. So, I know how incredibly powerful it can be to have someone in your corner who is unconditional in their support.

My work and practice philosophy continue to evolve as I walk alongside my clients and witness their stories and I am so privileged and humbled that my clients open up and share their experiences with me. They are my most valuable teachers, allowing me to support others to feel less alone in reclaiming their lives from diets and anti-fat bias.

I’m Always Learning and Unlearning.

But at the moment, here’s what guides me…

A Note on the Term ‘Eating Disorder’

I am moving away from the term ‘eating disorder’ as it places the ‘problem’ within the person and ignores the external factors and systems that cause harm and trauma, leading people to develop coping strategies to simply exist with the culture and environment they live in.

But, as most people still use and understand ‘eating disorder’, you will find this terminology referenced throughout my website.

Our work together can be counter-cultural, and radical, yet still based on the evidence of your lived experience and ethics.

In 2024, I’m returning to school to study psychotherapy with an interest in the emerging field of psychedelic-assisted therapies for supporting ‘eating disorders’, trauma work and recovery.
